An existing hallway powder room doubled as a cramped guest bath. Additionally, guests could not access the bath directly from the guest bedroom.

The designers, CSI Kitchen & Bath Studios, offered a more open, even airy solution — a solution that incorporated an Asian minimalist look and feel desired by the client.

Extra space was required to make the transition. The original room was 5 ft. by 7 ft. This came from a hallway linen closet and a guest bedroom closet, which were absorbed into the bathroom space.

Only a little storage space was sacrificed by the loss of the closets because there remains a closet in the guest bedroom, and there is an additional closet off of the home’s foyer.

Further space savings were achieved with the introduction of pocket doors. There is one from the hallway for use as a powder room. And there is onefrom the bedroom for its use as a guest bath.

Product selections were in line with the minimalist theme and helped accomplish much of the aesthetic. A Villeroy and Bosch sculptural toilet was mounted on the wall. A custom-made zebra-wood “floating” vanity provided a sleek setting for a polished stainless steel vessel-styled lavatory, with a faucet by Hansgrohe. Also, a 24-in. Rainshower from Hansgrohe offered a sleek fixture within the walls of a clear, glass, curbless shower enclosure.

One judge commented: “Simple concept. Clean lines. Well executed. A nice solution with lots of visual bang.”
