The physical, in-person portion of the 2020 Remodeling Show has been cancelled, says the show’s organizer, Informa Markets. The event, which had been scheduled for Oct. 13-15 at the Baltimore Convention Center, will now be “reimagined” as a virtual event on those dates. Meanwhile, Informa Markets announced the Deck Expo portion of the show will be merged with the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, which is scheduled for Nov. 8-13 in Las Vegas.
The reason for the changes were driven by the venue, which was being converted into a facility for COVID-19 patients. “To meet the need for inpatient care, the exhibit hall of the Baltimore Convention Center has been converted into a facility to treat those recovering from COVID-19. With the uncertainty of when it will return to hosting professional events, the Remodeling Show will move to a new format in 2020,” a statement on the Remodeling Show website said.
Virtual event to focus on education
Details of the virtual event, which will be held over the same dates as the physical event, Oct. 13-15, have not been finalized but the event will be focused on delivering education. Conference sessions, building clinics and product demonstrations will be offered on-demand.
“With the goal of continuing to serve remodeling, design, and building professionals from all over the country, the Remodeling Show is excited to reimagine this year’s event in a digital format over the same dates, October 13 – 15. Through virtual technologies and platforms, the Remodeling Show will continue to showcase the latest building products and techniques, while providing unique opportunities to expand professional reach. As the education program shifts to a virtual experience, building clinics, product demonstrations, and conference sessions will be offered on-demand,” the Remodeling Show statement said.

Deck Expo co-locates to Vegas
The Deck Expo, which was launched in 2003, had been co-located with the Remodeling Show for over a decade, remains a physical event with its new co-location partner, the Pool and Spa Expo. The event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center Nov. 8-13. The combination of the two shows is arguably a better fit than the prior arrangement, industry observers say. Informa Markets is certainly happy with the new arrangement.
“Bringing these two events together creates a broader selection of products and technology for outdoor living,” said Ray Giovine, group director for the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo. “With this co-location, our attendees will have more tools to create a beautiful outdoor space for their clients’ homes, and our exhibitors will reach a new selection of outdoor living professionals.”
