Applications for the annual ranking of the largest 500 remodeling and home improvement firms—The QR TOP 500—are due tomorrow, May 29, 2020 by midnight central time. Applications are online at www.QRTop500.com.

Applications are open to all remodeling and home improvement companies and the rankings are based on verified installed remodeling sales for the 2019 calendar year. For the past several years, the minimum threshold for making the list is $2 million.

A long-time benchmark and industry bellwether, Qualified Remodeler’s TOP 500 rankings will be published for the 42nd time in the August issue of the magazine and online at QualifiedRemodeler.com.

“We take a great deal of pride in presenting the Qualified Remodeler TOP 500 list each year,” says Patrick O’Toole, co-owner of SOLA Group Inc. which publishes QR. “Fact checking is extensive as is our effort to cast the widest possible net to encourage remodeling and home improvement firms to submit their applications. We do this because interest in the list is very strong and grows with each passing year.”

The application process opened Jan. 2 with notifications to hundreds of previous applicants for the list. This was followed by several broadcast emails to the industry as well as on social media and in print advertisements in Qualified Remodeler magazine.

Five Segments

In August of 2019, the TOP 500 list reported $9.78 billion in remodeling revenue on 1,074,431 jobs across a broad swath of the industry. The list requires applicants to self-identify as serving one of five vertical markets within the industry—full-service, design-build, home improvement |replacement, kitchen and bath specialists, and insurance restoration.

Full-service contracting firms typically offer everything from time-and-materials jobs all the way up to room additions and whole-house remodels. They are often comprised of in-house project managers and carpenters. Design-build firms focus on higher-end, discretionary projects that are designed in-house and managed through to completion. Home improvement and replacement firms focus on specialty jobs–from windows, roofing and siding to basement waterproofing, and replacement baths. Kitchen and bath firms cater to discretionary, higher end kitchen and bath remodels, often with designers and a showroom. Lastly, insurance restoration firms like perennial No. 1 firm, Belfor, focus exclusively on property loss projects.

Benefits of Making the List

Firms that qualify for the 2020 TOP 500 list will receive notification from the magazine’s editors on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020. At that time, they will also receive a press release for distribution to local media, a TOP 500 logo for posting on advertisements, social media, websites and e-mail signature lines. In addition, firms will be eligible to purchase official branded merchandise—plaques, posters, truck magnets and other items through Qualified Remodeler at www.Delzer.com/Top500.

To learn more about applying for the 42nd annual QR TOP 500 go to www.QRTop500.com or call the magazine at (847) 440-3000. The magazine will do its best to accommodate these requests.
