The client had been dismayed to learn that his 84-year-old father was beginning to struggle with living alone in another city. After considering various ways to help, the family decided to build an addition onto the rear of their house to accommodate him. They envisioned a complete suite that would allow the retired army colonel independence and privacy as well as family closeness.

The company designed a 650-square-foot, single-story suite with a bedroom/sitting room, an accessible bathroom and a kitchenette with an office nook. Stacked laundry and basic cooking capabilities make the space a complete apartment. A new ducted mini-split system provides heating and cooling to the unit, and the addition has a separate entrance off the shared patio.
