Beyond maintaining the integrity of existing architecture, the clients had three major objectives. They sought to incorporate aging-in-place elements, including a primary suite on the same level as the kitchen and living spaces. They also desired a chef’s kitchen with storage and technology for baking and a wood shop for turning bowls. Furthermore, they wanted dedicated office spaces.
An addition at the front unifies the two wings of the house with a light-filled foyer and creates a generous entry with view to the exterior. The first floor includes the living, kitchen, primary suite and office areas. The suite incorporates universal design elements such as large doors and a zero-threshold shower. A sculptural stair connects to the lower level, which comprises the wood shop.
