The existing basement for this professional couple was outdated, cramped, lacked storage and display shelving for their personal mementos, poorly lighted, and not functional or useable as a space to enjoy, relax, and entertain. The space needed to accommodate multiple generations of visitors. Creating areas for grandchildren to play, and an adult area to gather and socialize were priorities. The client envisioned a streamlined, modern, sophisticated “WOW” space upon entry into the room from the stairway and usable for daily enjoyment.

The objective was to create a sleek, modern family room that maximizes and transforms the existing footprint by designing custom cabinetry and shelving, functional storage incorporating dramatic and modern surfaces, dramatic layered lighting, and natural materials, resulting in a space that is completely transformed into a luxurious, special, and customized space.

Some challenges the team faced was installing new custom cabinetry over the existing brick wall— the cabinetry design needed to seamlessly wrap around the loadbearing post and beams. Supply chain disruptions and lengthy order times caused installation delays.
