A family of four with young teenage children desired a luxurious open plan kitchen with clean lines, a large island for entertaining and a beautiful presentation upon entering the space. They did not want to see the dishwasher, refrigerator or freezer. The existing kitchen was large but enclosed with arched soffits and round columns, with one of them covering a load-bearing post.

The company redefined the kitchen by eliminating columns and soffits, creating a floating island and using integrated appliances. Two new 22-foot-deep by 18-inch concrete piers under a new grade beam and wider parallam beams replaced the existing beams. The new kitchen walls and soffits frame both walls elegantly, and the coffers were removed to create a smooth, flat ceiling.
