As this couple embarked on the next stage of their life, they desired a more modern aesthetic and a more intimate setting as they moved into the empty nester phase. As the design team discussed the options available with the current home design, it was evident that they wanted to be able to make the home smaller when it was just the two of them but expand it when friends and family visited

Obviously, it wasn’t possible to change the size of the home, but the team was able to change the way it functioned for them. The desire was to be able to completely close off the guest rooms from the common living spaces when not in use so the team utilized the large feature wall to include shelves that were attached to a secret door. The clients also wanted to conceal the TV, as they were not big TV watchers but their kids were. The team had just returned from the CED show and had seen hardware that moved on a large piece of art, and could conceal a safe, TV, or cabinet. Finally, the clients requested a long, linear fireplace that looked like it continued outside. The team worked with their fireplace engineers to include a linear unit that includes two power vents and a linear gas line the length of the opening.
