This older couple had been residing in their home for over four years. After all their children moved out, they were ready to retire. With that in mind, their plan was to build a first-story master suit addition and two-door garage for aging-in-place. The plan was to convert the old two-door garage into the master bedroom, master bathroom, and closet, building up the floor to match the existing house level, eliminating the center beam and post with structural beams, and then add a mudroom and tow door garage with side entrance to the backyard. The team had to make wide doorways and entrances, as well as ramps from the garage to the mudroom and bedroom to make the home aging-in-place friendly. The team installed a new HVAC unit for the new bedroom, as well as wood flooring to create a smooth transition to the old part of the home. A curb-less shower stall and wide hallways, double vanities, and heated floors were all amenities they wanted for their retiring home.
