Square footage before: 3,650

The goal of this remodel was to create a brighter, more open kitchen, and to redesign the master bathroom. For the kitchen, the clients wanted more countertop space and better cabinet organization, as well as wanting to add a second prep sink, remove the mantel hood, and incorporate an existing dry bar into a new design to match the new kitchen cabinets. For the bathroom, the clients wanted a double vanity, the tub to take up a smaller footprint, and a makeover of the tiling and fixtures.

The historic home offered a few challenges for the team. The windows in the kitchen are situated rather low on the wall and could not be changed, so the team had to create wells in the back of the countertops so nothing would fall between the windows and the countertops. The kitchen itself was pretty compact, so the team had to work to improve flow and function. A deck mounted bath in the master bathroom didn’t allow for much walking room, so it was removed and replaced with a free standing claw foot tub.
