From swim wear to formal wear, this boathouse renovation offers modern conveniences for luxury lake living. Finishes include mahogany and chrome for timeless and durable elegance, creating comfort for family with function for entertaining. The bar and kitchenette are appointed with appliances and beer tap for casual dining. The open floorplan creates easy connections. A cantilevered deck design maximizes lake views through multi-slide doors. The lower-level drive-in boat slip was preserved, adding a changing room and access to watersport equipment. The casual yacht theming is meant to evoke relaxing cruises on the water – the epitome of lake life.

The allure of an historic carriage house is undeniable, but this one needed major renovation. After stabilizing the building on new footings, a new artist’s studio was created using as many elements from the original barn as possible in addition to many architectural salvage pieces to create a funky and visually vibrant space.

The goal for this project was to turn a seldom used bonus room above the garage into an attractive and completely self–sufficient guest house or potential efficiency apt rental. The existing 22’ x 25’ space consisted of one large room with a small bath and a water heater closet. The clients specifically wanted to create an open space that could still be utilized as a gameroom but would also have all the function, warmth, privacy and conveniences of a small home.

The clients have enjoyed their historic home and the unique character that it has to offer, however their detached garage and guest space was in desperate need of improvement. With only a single car garage and rather tight living quarters, the guest space lacked luster. The clients embraced our design which expanded the living space dramatically by placing it on a new second level over a two-car garage. Using a similar footprint to the original building, the new structure provided an updated guest suite complete with a kitchen, bath, bedroom and living space all finished with custom details
