This master bathroom transformed the quintessential 70’s master en-suite. Formally white and sterile, it is now warm and soothing. Every square inch of the space is used to create an invitation to relax. Simple, clean design and carefully crafted details make impressive use of the limited space. Utilizing an adjacent closet to consolidate the shower and tub space allowed us to expand this formally cramped and utilitarian bathroom. Wood details in the bathroom helped reinforce the walnut accents throughout the house.

One of the homeowner’s requests was to reuse a beloved antique chandelier brought from their previous home. This light now graces the bather in gentle, sparkling light. The addition of windows combined with glass, and zero entry shower, flood the room with light and create a feeling of openness in this small space. The home’s iconic midcentury design is reflected in the tiling and utilizes flush transitions to the drywall, creating a high-end, modern aesthetic. The prerequisite of a soaking tub made space a major challenge to this master bathroom remodel, maximizing the space available to create a sanctuary; both personalized and spacious despite a limited footprint. The team accomplished this while always honoring the aesthetic age in which the home was built. Using dark materials to accent the small, bright, vibrant custom-glazed tiles created a statement that harkens back to a prior era that is enjoying a resurgence of interest.
