Location: Gainsville, Ga. | Project Cost: $165,674
Square Footage After: 3,998

The project aimed to add a primary bathroom to a home by utilizing a small covered patio off the primary bedroom. The team added double glass pocket doors to the bathroom to allow natural light in and make the narrow space feel wider. The team also added small peek-a-boo windows to capture city views and natural light while maintaining privacy.

The bathroom features a curb-less shower with heated floors, built-in bench, and handheld valve. The team used porcelain tile on the floor that looks like wood and classic hexagon “marble looking” porcelain tile in the shower. The longer shaped space allowed for two sinks with wall-mounted faucets, medicine cabinets above, and cabinets below that rest on legs for a traditional look with modern functionality. The team faced challenges in fitting a bathroom into the space without taking up too much living area and getting the custom cabinetry into the loft apartment without using the staircase. The team covered an existing dormer window on the inside to create more usable wall space for the vanity and tucked the shower into an area with an angled ceiling to allow for more walking space in the bathroom.

The team brought the cabinetry into the space by installing double French doors at the end of the loft apartment and using scaffolding and several extra people to lift the solid wood cabinet up from ground level into the loft apartment through the double doors.
