The front elevation of the 1960s traditional-frame home faces east and is across the street from the ocean, separated only by a layer of sand dunes and the homes directly along the oceanfront. An existing front wall of the house was already in violation of the township’s front-yard setback requirements, and the front porch had been demolished in order to design a new porch and entry.

Demolishing a raised deck and sunroom in the rear reduced the percentage of building coverage on the lot and allowed for some expansion for a new covered porch along the front of the house. Lifting the existing home and providing sufficient head-room on the ground level enabled a two-car garage and storage, and the inclusion of a covered outdoor living space at the rear of the plan.
