The client and his family bought an old firehouse to realize his dream of creating a live/work studio. He wanted to retain its charm and character while incorporating his own modern and creative style, so he spent a great deal of time fixing up the firehouse and restoring original details such as wainscoting, flooring and trim. But he needed help to bring the kitchen to life.

The age of the structure presented challenges throughout the space in terms of keeping things square and level. The kitchen is on the second floor and accessed only by a narrow stairwell. In contrast to the contemporary cabinetry, the client repurposed wood he had torn out elsewhere for use in the bridge feature in front of the window,as well as the shelves on either side of the range.
