The owner of a historic DC rowhouse wanted to update their kitchen which would bring a luxurious modern style while maintaining its historical charm. The project involved adding an island, incorporating arts and crafts with a touch of Mid-century modern style, and creating a seamless path from the backdoor. Challenges included designing an island that adhered to the home’s historic character, finding a place for the sink and dishwasher, and creating an unobstructed path through the kitchen to the outside. They added the right island, multiple pantry cabinets, upper wall cabinets with clear glass, and a built-in furniture-style banquette. The client was thrilled with the result, which improved flow, increased storage, and significantly upped the wow factor in the historic row home.
