2023 Master Design Awards: Kitchen More Than $150,000 — BRONZE

Location: Newburyport, Mass. | Project Cost: $343,679
Square Footage: 500

After moving from Boston to Newburyport, the clients longed for the former contemporary spaces they left behind and wanted to incorporate the high-end city aesthetic into their new kitchen. While their new home was in a desirable location, their interior amenities were less than desirable and did not fit their needs. The original kitchen was very traditional and congested. It offered little to no counter space for cooking and baking (which was a must for the clients!). The kitchen was also very dark due to the finishes and small windows. In order to create the kitchen of their dreams, the team expanded and relocated it to provide a more extensive, high-end chef-inspired environment with clean lines and angles to match the sleek, modern design they were looking for. We also installed new windows and a floor-to-ceiling contemporary double-outswing door to help bring in more natural light and brighten the space.

COVID-19 material delays was the biggest challenge they ran into, particularly the beige Rauviso laminate for their cabinets which would take six months to arrive. The clients ended up choosing a different color by the same brand. They also had to reframe some of the original walls in the home, as they did not match the new ones.
