The clients of this project wanted to add rear addition including a screened in porch, gallery, family room and outdoor kitchen. The existing historic Pennsylvania Dutch telescoping style house lacked exterior covered spaces and had an incompatible fenestration. The house is listed with the National Register of Historic Properties.

The primary challenge facing the team was maintaining the aesthetic of the original home while still providing exterior spaces that relate to interior spaces, all of which needed to go through the local historic review boards. Therefore, the team created a porch with an overhand in order to create the roof of the family room addition. Through discreet massing, they then created a linking gallery leading to the gabled screened porch off of the existing garage.
