This project started with a request for a dog wash area, storage for kennels, and a secondary laundry area for dog blankets and towels. The homeowner is a veteran dog foster and most times has 3+ foster pups in addition to her own 4 resident dogs. The existing dog kennel situation for the foster pups was chaos with kennels and sundries taking over what the homeowner terms “the lounge”. The goal was to give the dogs their own space and tame some of the chaos.
The team designed this space with functionality in mind. The space started as an underutilized mechanical/storage room which housed remnants of a previous entertaining kitchenette. During design development, it quickly became clear they would not have enough room for the client’s wish list within the existing foot print of the mechanical room. They took square footage from the lounge to accommodate multiple kennels, dog wash, laundry, and additional storage. The dog wash boasts a custom concrete sink with hidden pull-out steps underneath. Blue porcelain tile adds a punch of color and becomes the focal point of the space. A single handheld shower offers convenience while washing wiggly pups. LVT flooring is perfect for water splash and puppy mess clean up.The dog wash/kennel project is the perfect solution to tame the chaos.
