ASID Sets Web Site Launch Date

Washington, D.C. The American of Interior (ASID) and the
Univer-sity of Minnesota have recently announced the projected
launch date for InformeDesign, a new online clearinghouse of design
and human behavior research.

Expected to launch early next month, the Web site will offer
research information for designers in a variety of forums,
including online discussion opportunities, a calendar of
research-related events and a monthly newsletter, the association
explained.

ASID president H. Don Bowden, FASID, AIA, noted, “In the very
near future, and at their fingertips, interior designers, other
members of the design community, representatives of the furnishings
and finishings industry, educators, university students and other
interested individuals will have access to an unprecedented wealth
of knowledge on the connection between design and human
behavior.”

The association also noted that a team of researchers at the
University of Minnesota are continually conducting a search of
available literature to be transformed into research summaries for
the Web site. Currently, some 200 journals containing research
findings on design and human behavior had been identified, with
topics ranging from the psychological impact of residential
crowding on children and the risk of home injury among the elderly
to the benefits of sustainable nature- based resorts, as well as
how to create alternative workspaces.

The services offered on the InformeDesign Web site will be
available at no cost to users, the association noted. Furthermore,
the association said that it is seeking manufacturers, architecture
or design firms, or other organizations as contributors to the
program. For more information, contact ASID Industry Partners at
202-546-3480.
