The bathroom remodel, part of a larger whole-house renovation and expansion, reorganized an awkward existing first-floor master-suite layout. The new plan includes a soaking tub, along with a large curbless shower, and introduces natural light with new windows connecting the bath to the landscape. The result is a welcoming, restful retreat through good design and innovative material use.

Contrasting oversize, thin-concrete wall panels with visual texture against the clean, white quartz countertop and white porcelain tiles overhead that reflect light creates intrigue. Cabinets made of quarter-sawn, cherry-veneer plywood give a warm color and a vertical expression to balance the horizontal layout of the wall panels and the linear design of a continuous bench seat and counter.

Case Design/Remodeling Halifax fully remodeled the homeowner’s ensuite, including removal of all existing plumbing fixtures, vanity cabinets, linen closet, shelves and accessories per design. The client was looking to remodel their existing bathroom and closet to create an open space while incorporating warm tones and textures. They also requested clean lines for fixtures, one simple control, vessel sinks, and natural and light tones for the bathroom tile. The homeowners also asked to incorporate a seat in the shower with a niche.

Case Design/Remodeling Halifax supplied and installed new upgraded plumbing fixtures, including custom floating vanity with wall-mount faucets, custom built-in closet and bathroom storage, rain head shower fixture with handheld shower and body sprays, and a large freestanding tub with floor-mount filler faucet. The space now features a warm chevron pattern tiled floor flowing into the custom, curbless, walk-in shower, and a closet to the rough cut stone veneer accent wall with floating tiled bench.

This bathroom remodel was a part of a larger, full-home remodel. The goal of the project was to create a master suite with a masculine feel and help the skinny layout feel larger within the existing space. A large window above the original soaking tub offered spectacular views, and it was important to keep this element while maintaining shower privacy. Therefore, a custom-built powder-coated steel storage shelf was created to provide privacy blocking.

By removing the existing soaking tub and creating a large temperature-controlled shower with a floor-to-ceiling glass wall, and removing some of the larger existing cabinetry elements, the space now feels larger and more open, with black honeycomb floor tiles, new black walnut cabinetry, contemporary wallpaper and updated fixtures.
