Builders help Gulf spill victims with shrimp boots

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 — The cast of the Emmy-winning television comedy series “Glee,” Chef Emeril Lagasse, Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning, and other celebrities have joined forces with the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans, an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders, to help Louisiana families hit hard by the oil spill in the Gulf with a celebrity shrimp boot fundraiser.

Plain white shrimp boots have been decorated and autographed by celebrities from sports, music, television, Broadway, the media and more to be raffled off at the inaugural New Orleans Home and Interior Design Show at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans Sept. 17-19. Raffle proceeds will go to the Catholic Charities’ Oil Spill Relief Fund, which is running out of money according to Co-president Gordon R. Wadge.

“The HBA of Greater New Orleans is proud to assist with Gulf Coast recovery efforts,” said Jon Luther, executive vice president of the HBA. “Nothing like this show is being done here–it’s going to be a fusion of high-end interior design, cuisine, art, and charity.”

The New Orleans HBA, which has produced a home and garden show for more than 50 years, saw an opportunity to assist the recovery effort by creating the only interior design show in the southeast region as well as help area fishermen and families with a charity raffle.

“The members of the HBA of Greater New Orleans have put their hearts and souls into this effort,” said NAHB Chairman Bob Jones. “With the devastation of two hurricanes and now the oil spill, the people of the Gulf Coast have had more than their share of hardship, and I am very proud of our industry and their response.”

The show will feature the latest trends and innovations in residential interior design, along with a celebrity chef cook-off, interior design consultations, and more. A Green Design Expo section will showcase vendors who have sustainable interior and exterior building products, and provide consumers an opportunity to learn about new products coming to the New Orleans market.
