Fortune Brands Acquires R-T-A Cabinet

Old Greenwich, CT Fortune Brands, Inc., the consumer products giant
and parent company of Aristokraft, Schrock and Decora, has acquired
NHB Group Ltd., a major manufacturer of ready-to-assemble kitchen
and bath cabinetry, the company announced.

Fortune Brands, the nation’s number-two cabinet manufacturing
company, at a cumulative $400 million in annual sales, said through
a company spokesperson last month that its home products business
purchased the privately-held NHB Group for an undisclosed

NHB Group whose brands include Kitchen Classics, the Georgetown
Collection and
NHB is projecting sales of about $60 million this year, up from
about $49 million in 1998. NHB is based in Ontario, Canada, and
operates factories in Ontario and Talladega, AL. Aside from
Aristokraft, Schrock and Decora, Fortune Brands also owns Moen Inc.
and other building products companies.

“The addition of NHB reflects our commitment to further
strengthening our thriving home products business,” said Bruce
Carbonari, president and CEO of Fortune Brands’ home products
business. “With its strength in the expanding ready-to-assemble and
assembled frameless cabinet categories, NHB is another excellent
fit for our rapidly growing kitchen and bath cabinet

Carbonari added that the acquisition will expand the breadth of
Fortune Brands’ cabinet offerings, while strengthening the
company’s presence in both Canada and in major home centers.
