VALENCIA, Spain—Taking place February 20-24, 2017, Cevisama took over the Feria Valencia with over 110,000 square meters and 721 exhibitors. The show exceeded expectations by welcoming more than 80,000 manufacturers, distributors, buying groups, architects, interior designers and more. The fair showcases the latest in ceramic floor and wall tiles, frits, glazes and colors for ceramic roof tiles and bricks, materials and tools, natural stone and bathroom equipment.

The show’s trend report indicates that reproductions of stone, marble, wood and cement are still very evident, while other effects—like pure metals, steel, terrazzo and “stracciatella” finishes—are growing in popularity. Timeless and neutral materials in an increasing range of size formats continue to dominate, though the trend report predicts decorators and project designers will increasingly experiment with artisan ceramic and terra cotta to bring color, geometric shapes and movement into spaces.

During Cevisama 2017, the Alfa de Oro awards were presented by the Spanish Ceramic and Glass Society to three exhibitors to identify products, processes, or machinery and equipment from the ceramic and glass industries that are outstanding in terms of technological or artistic innovation. Awarded for the first time in 1977, the awards also recognize functionality and utility in bathroom and kitchen products. A jury comprised of experts linked to the ceramic tile industry from academia and the business world awarded the 2017 Alfa de Oro Awards to Zschimmer & Schwarz, Bestile-Neos Additives and Color Esmalt.

  • Zschimmer & Schwarz was awarded the Alfa de Oro for developing of a system for adapting traditional screen printing inks for use with new technologies.
  • Bestile-Neos Additives received the Alfa de Oro prize for a joint project in which the a modeling software is capable of creating ceramic compositions using artificial intelligence-based algorithms.
  • The Alfa de Oro prize went to Color Esmalt for its development of a transparent matte digital ink that improves the mechanical strength of ceramic tile surfaces.

Cevisama 2018 will take place Feb. 5-8, 2018, and its theme will be “Create Your Own Reality.” Learn more about Cevisama here.
