The Spring Houzz Landscaping Survey, of more than 4,500 Houzz users who are in the midst of or are planning a landscape update, indicates that creating entertaining space and fixing problems are equally important to homeowners. According to survey results, the reasons respondents are taking on landscaping are: 56 percent for entertaining purposes; 41 percent to solve flooding issues; 25 percent to solve sun exposure issues; and 23 percent to create privacy.

The survey also reveals that a majority of homeowners are making eco-friendly choices for their outdoor spaces. Lighting goes green with LED and solar powered lights being popular selections for updated lighting options. Overwhelmingly, 92 percent of homeowners are choosing plants that are native to their region, which has benefit to the environment and reduces maintenance.
Many homeowners –64 percent –are joining the local food movement by planning to grow edibles in their yard. Herbs are most popular (73 percent), followed by vegetables (70 percent) and fruit trees (51 percent).
