ICPA Wins ANSI Nod for Solid Surface
Standard

Mclean, VA The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has
approved the performance standard developed for solid surface
materials by the International Cast Polymer Association, the ICPA
said.

The standard, according to the McLean, VA-based ICPA, defines
the baseline performance requirements for solid surface materials,
used widely in kitchen and bath countertops, bathroom products and
related residential and commercial applications.

A different national standard developed by the International
Solid Surface Fabricators Association (ISSFA) has been in existence
for more than a year, and the two trade associations have been at
odds over which standard should be embraced by the nation’s solid
surface suppliers and countertop fabricators.

The ANSI standard creates the test methods regarding various
areas, such as the structure, water resistance, colorfastness,
stain resistance and cleanability of solid surface materials,
including their ability to be fabricated with inconspicuous seams
and to be restored to their original finish, the ICPA further
explained.
