Project name: Urban High Rise Kitchen
Most kitchens in this urban unit are very generic; units tend to sell because of beautiful city and lake views. The clients wanted to make an extraordinary, contemporary space with impact; they purchased appliances on their own to keep project costs down. Galley kitchens often look long and narrow, so the team aimed to give the illusion of additional width and spaciousness. They used light bamboo base cabinets with high-gloss wall cabinets and some glass door cabinets with lighted interiors. A chimney hood with a curved glass dome and reflective tile behind it also helped to broaden the room. A 3-ft.-wide niche was at the end of the room with a window above a baseboard heater. The team built a bench at window-sill height and cantilevered the counter over the bench to give a seating area with a great view and snack staging area.
