Westport, CT Cygnus Business Media, the parent
company of Kitchen & Bath Design News and its sister magazine
SolidSurface, announced that its Cygnus Expositions division has
acquired the Solid Surface International Trade Show and Expo from
the Henderson, NV-based International Solid Surface Fabricator’s
Association (ISSFA).

Acquisition of the event the only one of its kind
servicing the $1-billion solid surface and engineered stone
industry was finalized in mid-February, with the official
announcement taking place just days later, at this year’s show in
Las Vegas.

“With Cygnus Publishing’s SolidSurface magazine,
this acquisition accomplishes a key strategic goal of owning the
leading magazine and trade show in a given market,” said Paul
Mackler, president and CEO of Cygnus Business Media, headquartered
in Westport, CT. “We can now offer customers a far more compelling
and integrated marketing opportunity.”

The show also creates a strong tie-in with several
additional Cygnus building and industrial publications, aside from
Solid Surface and Kitchen & Bath Design News including Wood
Digest, Surfacing Solutions, Qualified Remodeler and Design/ Build
Business, Cygnus officials said.

“Cygnus Expositions will provide the extensive
marketing and promotional programs necessary to grow a successful
trade show,” observed ISSFA president Michael Wilson-South, a
Hawaii-based fabricator. “ISSFA will continue to build on our
mission educating architects, designers, specifiers, builders,
remodelers, kitchen/bath dealers, industrial and OEM accounts and
consumers, on the many uses and advantages of solid surfaces, with
the benefit of Cygnus’ support.”

This year’s Solid Surface International Trade Show
and Expo took place February 17-19 at the Mandalay Bay Convention
Center, and featured some 39,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space. Nearly
150 companies displayed equipment, tools and materials used in the
fabrication of solid surfaces and engineered stone, whose prime
application is for kitchen and bath countertops. The event also
included a full conference series.

ISSFA is a not-for-profit trade association
representing about 1,000 member companies worldwide. The
association’s 239 associate member companies represent solid
surface manufacturers, machinery and equipment manufacturers,
tooling manufacturers, adhesive suppliers and abrasive
manufacturers.

The acquisition is the second for Cygnus
Expositions this year. The division acquired 25 shows in January
from Penton Media.
“Like all trade show acquisitions, the Solid Surface Inter-national
Trade Show and Expo accomplishes our goal of growing the trade show
division with shows that benefit from our existing media
properties,” said Cygnus Expositions president Jeff Price. “We look
forward to working closely with ISSFA as sponsor of the event going
forward. Their continued involvement and Cygnus’ trade show
management expertise will assure exhibitors and attendees of the
finest and most important trade event serving their industry.”

Cygnus Business Media publishes 80
business-to-business media products including trade magazines,
directories and cards, and produces 47 trade shows in 15 major
markets.
