LEED Surpasses 1 Billion Sq. Ft. Certified Space

by bkrigbaum@solagroup.com

U.S. Green Building Council
announced this week that it reached 1 billion sq. ft. of LEED-certified
commercial space. This includes 36,000 commercial projects. In
addition, more than 38,000 residential  projects have been
LEED for Homes certified since the program’s inception in
2000.

As of May 2010, more than 1,000 homes were certified under the ANSI Green Building Standard,
which began as the
National Association of Home Builders

Green Building Guidelines introduced to the industry in 2008.

Both the ANSI and LEED programs provide third-party verification and
additional marketing tools for home design and building professionals.
