‘Managing for Profit’ Seminar Series
Entering 4th Year in 2002

Melville, NY The “Managing for Profit” seminar series, the
unique all-day educational program aimed at delivering business
management and sales education to kitchen/bath dealers in major
metropolitan markets, will kick off its fourth year next month
under the joint sponsorship of Kitchen & Bath Design News and
the National Kitchen & Bath Association.

The seminar series, which has met with highly favorable response
since its debut in 1999, will once again be targeted at five U.S.
cities, and will include a new, more advanced curriculum in 2002,
K&BDN publisher Eliot Sefrin announced. Markets to be served
include the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast and West
Coast, Sefrin noted.

“We’re excited to be working once again with the NKBA and
industry-leading companies to bring Kitchen & Bath Design News
‘live’ to the industry,” Sefrin said. “We’re also excited to have
been able to fine-tune the ‘Managing for Profit’ program to deliver
the educational content dealers need most in order to remain viable
and profitable.”

The initial seminar, scheduled for April 25 at the Tarrytown
Hilton, in Tarrytown, NY, is being co-sponsored by Plain &
Fancy Custom Cabinetry and Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. Additional
corporate sponsorships are anticipated, according to Sefrin.

The 2002 ‘Managing for Profit’ curriculum will include four
distinct components dealing with financial management, effective
buying and selling strategies and how to develop a powerful,
integrated marketing campaign. A special focus, developed in
conjunction with Better Homes and Gardens magazine, will be placed
on current consumer product/design “hot buttons” and how to
effectively follow up on consumer leads.

“The kind of business management and sales information that’s
being offered in these seminars is invaluable to attendees in light
of the way the kitchen and bath market is changing and becoming
increasingly competitive for all types of retail businesses,”
Sefrin said. 

“In addition, the seminars are easy to get to, and provide an
interactive quality a dialogue, really between the instructors and
the attendees that people find most stimulating.”

Two well known industry educators Stephen Vlachos, CKD, CBD and
Hank Darlington will once again lead the programs, Sefrin
added.

The tentative schedule for 2002 is as follows:

  • Northeast Region, April 25, Tarrytown Hilton, Tarrytown, NY.
    Corporate Co-Sponsors: Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, Wellborn
    Cabinet, Inc.
  • Mid-Atlantic Region, May 23, Embassy Suites Hotel at
    Baltimore/Washington International Airport. 
  • Midwest Region, June, Chicago. 
  • Southeast Region, September, Atlanta-area location. 
  • Western Region, October, San Francisco. Specific dates and
    locations for the Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco events will be
    announced by K&BDN and the NKBA in the near future.

NKBA members can register for seminars for $100; the fee for
non-NKBA members is $175; sponsors’ customers and guests are
admitted on a complementary basis.

“Managing for Profit” attendees also qualify for ongoing
professional development credits (OPD) and continuing educational
units (CEU).
