Now in it’s 32nd year, the Master Design Awards continue to be a premier award for residential remodelers to win. What distinguishes this award program from others is the peer-to-peer nature of the award. Only active remodelers and designers are permitted to sit on our judging panel.
This year’s judging took place July 27–28 at the Hotel Monaco in downtown Chicago, while filming for the upcoming movie “Transformers 3” took place across the street. Judges were handpicked and brought in from all over the United States to give a wide variety of views and opinions on the projects. Our 2010 judging panel consisted of Michael Menn, AIA, CGR, CAPS, of Michael Menn Ltd., Northbrook, Ill.; Martha Kerr, CKD, of Neil Kelly Co., Portland, Ore.; Neil Kristianson of Crimson Design & Construction, Naperville, Ill.; Christopher Landis, AIA of Landis Construction, Washington, D.C.; and Troy Pavelka of Normandy Builders, Hinsdale, Ill.
Over the next 29 pages of Master Design Awards, the Gold winners are showcased along with the companies that won Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention awards. Also, in partnership with Chrysalis, recipients of both Chrysalis and Master Design Awards for the same project are recognized with a JANUS award.
This year the Master Design Awards produced 25 Gold award winners, 22 Silver award winners, 22 Bronze award winners and 26 Honorable Mention awards. Among all of these winners, the judges then selected a best project above $250,000 and best project below $250,000. This year, the judges also selected a Vision Award for one outstanding whole-house project they felt deserved some extra kudos.
