NARI Announces New Co-CEOs

by Patrick OToole

Two familiar faces from within NARI will lead the association as co-CEOs, the association announced on Aug. 25. Elsie Iturralde, who had previously served as interim CEO and Tracy Wright, who had served as senior director of member engagement and governance were appointed.

Iturralde and Wright each have more than 22 years of experience with NARI. They had previously worked together at another association.

“The NARI executive officers and board of directors agreed that based on both Elsie and Tracy’s breadth of experience and history of working together, the co-CEO role was a perfect fit to move NARI forward,” said NARI President Andy Apter, CKBR, UDCP. “Elsie has twice served as Interim CEO, and Tracy has served in various leadership positions at NARI over the years. Together, this leadership team will help guide NARI to meet our strategic goals.

The co-CEO role has been used by a number of corporations and is gaining popularity for its benefits.

“I am honored and thrilled to embark on this exciting journey with Tracy as we chart the course to lead NARI toward a future full of endless possibilities,” said Iturralde.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to serve NARI in the co-CEO role with Elsie. We look forward to leading NARI alongside our Board of Directors in the continued pursuit of providing value to our members and chapters and strengthening the professionalism of the remodeling industry,” said Wright.

A press release from NARI noted that the association is presently updating the association’s systems and processes and said that having experienced leadership who have a good understanding of its membership is important. The move to embrace two internal candidates also promises to provide additional stability to the organization.

Former NARI CEO Christine Melendes left the organization in mid February to pursue other opportunities. Melendes’ decision came as a surprise to many in the industry. She had only been on the job for eight months following a six-month search by NARI. She had joined NARI on July 18, 2022 and was chosen from among a group of 20 finalists for the job. Melendes replaced David Pekel, a remodeler and board member from Milwaukee, who had served as CEO after the a previous association leader, Fred Ulreich, separated from NARI in 2018.  QR
