MCLEAN, Va. — Sept. 21, 2010
–/PRNewswire/ —
Science Applications International  Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced
it was awarded a new prime contract by Boral Composites Inc. to design and build
a composite building material manufacturing facility. The contract is valued at
more than $11 million, and the project is scheduled for completion in June of
2011.

Boral Bricks Inc. is the largest
manufacturer and distributor of clay brick in the United
States
. The new Boral Composites facility will
be located on property adjacent to Boral Bricks’ current East Spencer, N.C.
site, and will meet the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in
Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards, minimizing energy use and
conserving other resources.  The
facility will manufacture a line of exterior building products made primarily of
recycled and rapidly renewable materials.

“Adopting new ‘green’
technologies such as this will help further the global adoption of sustainable
green building and development practices,” said J.T. Grumski, SAIC senior vice
president and business unit general manager. “We look forward to strengthening
our relationship with Boral, and delivering a quality plant that will enable
them to manufacture a line of exterior building products, using recycled and
renewable materials.”

This new project builds on SAIC’s
prior work for Boral. Most recently, SAIC completed the design and construction
of a 295,000-square-foot Indiana plant – the
largest brick manufacturing facility in the U.S. SAIC
received the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) 2009 National Excellence
Award for the design and construction of the LEED Gold certified facility.
