New Group to Serve Plumbing, Hardware
Sector

Bethesda, MD A new trade association aimed at the decorative
plumbing and hardware sector of the market has been created by 13
organizations representing a cross-section of the industry.

The trade association, which is headquartered in Bethesda, MD,
is being called the Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Association
(DPHA), and contains direct links to the kitchen and bath
industry.

“DPHA is a consensus-based organization recognizing and treating
all industry interests as peers and equals,” said founding member
Robert Lando, of the Chicago-based Community Home Supply.

Membership in the association, Lando said, is comprised of
dealers, manufacturers and manufacturers’ representatives “coming
together to share information, develop and implement training
programs and enhance bottom-line performance for all segments of
the decorative plumbing and hardware industry.”

The formation of the DPHA, according to executive v.p. Thomas
Cohn, reflects the evolution of the decorative plumbing and
hardware industry as “a distinct discipline with unique training
and professional development needs.”

The DPHA plans to address those needs, Cohn said, through a
multi-faceted approach that includes training and certification
programs, promoting the increased use of decorative plumbing
hardware and services, and conducting ongoing forums for the
exchange of information, new technologies and products. The
association will also work actively to develop business management
programs to increase members’ profitability, and to promote higher
standards among dealers, manufacturers and importers in the
decorative plumbing and hardware industry, according to Cohn.

DPHA’s initial training programs are currently being developed,
and the organization’s Web site www.dpha.net features interactive
communications tools that enable members to share and disseminate
information on business practices, new technology, product
announcements and business developments, Cohn added.

“The tremendous initial response to DPHA confirms the need to
fill the training and development void that currently exists in the
industry,” said founding member Jim Tomafsky of Mountain Plumbing
Products, in West Depford, NJ.

DPHA’s founding members include: THG USA, Coconut Creek, FL;
Barclay Products, Guanee, IL; Fiddlers, Honolulu, HI; Union
Hardware, Washington, DC; Colonial Bronze, Torrington, CT; Elegant
Additions, Houston; Miller Fine Decorative Hardware, Ft.
Lauderdale, FL; Community Home Supply, Chicago; Designer Hardware
by Faye, Oklahoma City, OK; West End Hardware Supply, Wynnewood,
PA; Stehr Enterprises, Crownsville, MD; Mountain Plumbing Products,
West Depford, NJ, and Phylrich International, Burbank, CA.

The association is located at 7900 Wisconsin Ave., Suite 204,
Bethesda, MD 20814; Telephone: (301) 657-3642; fax: (301)
907-9326.
