Ply
Gem Windows
,
a leading manufacturer of window and door
products for the residential new construction and replacement market,
was selected
by leading modular builder, Excel Homes, to
supply 83 windows and 15 patio doors for the Season 8 premiere of Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition
for a
project in Baltimore, Md. The makeover reveal
aired on ABC on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

The
largest home in the show’s
history,
at
more than 11,000
square feet, was built by leading modular builder, Excel Homes and the
Maryland
Community Builders’ Foundation, the charitable arm of the
Home Builders
Association of Maryland, with the help of Artisan Fine Homes. The home
is a
hybrid of modular and traditional “stick” building
and is a balanced mix of
traditional and modern. The brick front of the home represents the look
of
historic Baltimore row homes, while the arched roof and back of the
home mimics
the look of the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

The
windows and doors donated for this home
enhance the architectural styling on both the traditional and
contemporary
portions. For the traditional section, double hung, casement and
transom
windows with white exteriors and colonial simulated-divided-lite
grilles were
installed, while the contemporary section incorporates casement, fixed
and
eyebrow units with black exteriors. French and fixed panel doors are
integrated
throughout.

The
home was constructed for Girls Hope, a
part of the
“Boys
Hope-Girls
Hope”

organization. The non-profit organization provides homes and
opportunities for
promising inner city youth, helping them to achieve
their maximum potential and

nurturing a community’s future. In
Baltimore, there was only a Boys Hope home so the organization
purchased a
parcel of land near Boys Hope to build a similar Girls
Hope home. Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition
helped the
organization make
their dream a reality by building a nine bedroom, three-floor home on
the
lot.

“It
is an honor for Ply Gem Windows to have helped build a home where the
young
women of Girls Hope in Baltimore can thrive,” said Chris
Pickering, vice
president, marketing, Ply Gem windows. “With both traditional
and contemporary
architecture, the home really captures the beauty and versatility of
the Ply
Gem Windows Mira Premium Series. We are humbled to be a part of this
project
that goes well beyond its function and provides an inspiring
environment that
mimics the positive transition for these young women.”

The Ply Gem Windows donated for the
Baltimore Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition
project
are
aluminum
clad-wood new construction windows
and doors
from the Ply Gem Windows Mira Premium Series.
Select styles meet ENERGY STAR
guidelines and come standard with Low-E glass
and argon-gas fill for increased energy efficiency. Additionally, all
Ply
Gem windows and
patio doors are NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Research
Center
Green Approved.

Crafted for performance and value, the Ply
