Ray Afflerbach, Former NKBA Leader, Dies

Summerfield, FL Ray W. Afflerbach, CKD, 75, a former executive
director of the Nat-ional Kitchen & Bath Association and
considered as responsible for putting the NKBA on solid fiscal
ground in its early years died at his home here recently.

Afflerbach, one of the NKBA’s most important early leaders,
served the association then known as the American Institute of
Kitchen Designers as executive director through the 1970s and ’80s.
His forceful management style was considered a major reason that
the then-fledgling association achieved financial stability, during
a time when the kitchen and bath industry reached
then-unprecedented heights of prosperity. A tireless promoter, he
also managed the NKBA’s activities when it radically expanded its
visibility and educational programs.

Afflerbach was elected to the NKBA Hall of Fame in 1989. He is
survived by his wife Frances, a son, and two daughters.
