Reinvigorating a Hawaiian Bungalow

by Kacey Larsen

The challenge for Mokulua High Performance Builders and Archipelago Hawaii was to reinvigorate the charm and meld two eras within a 1,217-sq.-ft. classic Hawaiian style 1950’s era cottage. The approach was to design within the existing cottage footprint to limit reconstruction costs where possible. The Kaimuki Bungalow renovation included creating an integrated exterior living space, redesigning the kitchen, improving the home’s efficiency and reconfiguring the master and guest bathrooms.
