Melville, NY – Cygnus Publishing, the Melville, NY-based parent company of Kitchen & Bath Design News, has acquired SolidSurface magazine, The Journal of the Solid Surface Industry, the fast-growing publishing company announced.
The magazine, which is published six times a year, and is aimed primarily at solid surface fabricators, will become the fifth component in Cygnus Publishing’s “Shelter Group” of publications. The magazine will be overseen by Group Publisher Eliot Sefrin, according to Cygnus CEO Gerry Hogan.
“SolidSurface is a fast-growing and very promising magazine that complements Kitchen & Bath Design News extremely well, and provides great synergy with Cygnus’ other Shelter Group titles,” said Sefrin, who is also the editorial director and publisher of K&BDN. “Cygnus will be able to offer resources and added benefits that will help grow SolidSurface beyond what it could have under independent ownership.”
Aside from K&BDN, other titles in Cygnus’ Shelter Group include Wood Digest, Qualified Remodeler and Laminating Design & Technology.
SolidSurface magazine, headquartered in Las Vegas, is distributed to 4,500 members of the solid surface industry in 50 states and 40 foreign countries. Included among the readers are fabricators, manufacturers, distributors, product representatives, tool and equipment suppliers, and related specifiers. Customers for the solid surface fabricator include retail and wholesale kitchen dealers, builders, remodelers, homeowners and architects who work both on residential and commercial projects.
SolidSurface was launched in August of 1995 by Michael Duggan, who is currently the executive v.p. of the International Solid Surface Fabricators Association (ISSFA), an 800-member, Henderson, NV-based trade association representing fabricators. Prior to that, Duggan and his wife Joanna owned a fabrication shop for many years. Joanna Duggan assumed the role of publisher in 1998 when Michael Duggan assumed his current position at ISSFA.
Joanna Duggan will remain as SolidSurface‘s publisher, and the magazine’s current editor, Russ Lee, will remain in that position, as well, said Sefrin.
“The solid surface category is probably the fastest-growing segment of the surfacing market,” said Sefrin. “We think the growth of SolidSurface magazine will parallel the growth of the solid surface market,” said Sefrin, “and we look forward to working with Joanna and Russ in growing the magazine alongside Kitchen & Bath Design News.”
