Alside adds 12” Board & Batten to ASCEND® Line

by Tim Steingraber

Following the soaring success of Alside’s ASCEND® Composite Cladding 7” plank, the company has expanded its innovative product line with 12” Board & Batten.

A first-of-its-kind siding featuring exclusive (GP)2 Technology®, ASCEND has been recognized by national and international organizations for innovation and excellence in design, and deemed by many as a top product for remodelers and builders.

With ample exposures and the deeply grained look of real wood, ASCEND Composite Cladding captures the high-end aesthetics and maintenance freedom that today’s homeowners demand. For the Pro, it’s quicker and easier to install than fiber cement, engineered wood and other composite panels.

Not only does ASCEND’s light weight make it easy to handle, its self-aligning interlock and forgiving hang makes it easy to install. Plus, no sealing, touching up, joint flashing or caulking are required, meaning less mess and less waste. As well, no special skills, special tools or respirators are required, further adding to ASEND’s installation- and jobsite-friendly benefits.

ASCEND also offers lower total installed cost, with the potential to save 10% or more with reduced time and fewer laborers required.

Adding to ASCEND’s impressive properties are resistance to moisture, impact and fading, as well as superior windload performance. The integrated insulation provides an R-value of 2.0 for enhanced thermal resistance and energy efficiency.

ASCEND’s new 12” Board & Batten features the same remarkably realistic look of wood and high-performance technology of ASCEND’s 7” plank, beautifully replicating the artisan details of this historical vertical siding. The extra-wide 10″ board with 2″ batten adds visual depth and striking architectural appeal as a cladding accent or whole-house exterior.

The integral batten strip allows for single-step installation, a significant time-saver vs. fiber cement battens that must be individually fastened, filled in and touched up. The profile’s 3/4” panel projection also makes it compatible with standard and architectural trim options, further elevating the handcrafted aesthetics across a wide range of exterior designs and applications.

ASCEND is available in 20 on-trend, fade-resistant, low-gloss colors with a cedar grain mill texture. The 12” Board & Batten is also offered with a matte finish for enhanced compatibility with other materials and design options. Alside backs the ASCEND product line with a lifetime limited, transferable warranty; see product warranty for details.

The Science Behind ASCEND’s Impressive Beauty and Strength: (GP)2 Technology®. ASCEND is the world’s first composite cladding engineered with a combination of Glass-Reinforced Polymer and Graphite-Infused Polystyrene. This exclusive (GP)2 Technology was developed to achieve superior performance, meeting or exceeding industry test standards and criteria† for windload, workability, flame spread/smoke development and weatherability.

ASCEND’s (GP)2 compound contains glass fibers for added structural stability, strength and heat Resistance – helping ASCEND achieve a Class A Fire Rating and ensure lower expansion.  As well, titanium dioxide in the compound protects against ultraviolet degradation, and impact modifiers help resist dents and dings.

(GP)2’s integral weatherable pigments provide strong fade resistance, even on ASCEND’s dark colors, and its non-moisture-absorbing materials prevent rotting, warping, shrinking and swelling. The Graphite-Infused Polystyrene helps ASCEND achieve an R-value of 1.6, improving overall energy efficiency and helping to reduce thermal bridging.*

ASCEND represents the beauty of design ingenuity from every angle: superb aesthetics, workability and installation ease, as well as the “must-haves” long-lasting durability, carefree upkeep and added value. LEARN MORE about ASCEND and its new 12” Board & Batten here.
