Remodelers Making an IMPACT
In 2020, as the country battled the pandemic and an uncertain economy, the remodeling industry not only survived but found ways to grow and thrive. Remodeling business owners across the country discovered ways to meet the surging demand for services while making strategic moves to deliver projects and meeting strict local and state health mandates.
Remodelers Advantage (R/A), a business consulting firm that has worked with some of the most successful remodeling firms in the U.S. and Canada for more than 30 years, pivoted as well. R/A added online courses, switched to virtual meetings and worked one-on-one with any Roundtables Peer Group members struggling with the challenges faced by so many small businesses.
“We quickly discovered not only the importance of the relationship we have with our members, but the closeness they share among their groups as well,” said the firm’s President, Victoria Downing. “Our team jumped on the phones and walked our members through the PPP loan process, tactics to use in production, ways to communicate with clients and prospects… anything they needed,” added Downing.
As the year progressed, the team at Remodelers Advantage began looking more closely at their Roundtables Peer Group program and some of the similarities the more successful and active members had in common. “All of our members experience an impact on their lives and businesses by joining Roundtables; however, we wanted to provide open access to our masterclasses, consulting services and other resources so our members could achieve greater results,” said Downing.
Roundtables 2.0 was launched in January 2021. All new members and a majority of existing members now earn Professional Service Credits as part of their membership to use toward courses, services, or additional costs such as bringing a team member to the Annual Remodelers Summit in September.
Recognizing Those Making an Impact
In November of 2020, Remodelers Advantage held their annual Remodelers Summit, albeit virtually, and welcomed more than 800 attendees during the two-day event. During the Summit, four Roundtables members were honored as finalists, with one chosen as the recipient of the 2020 Impact Award.
Each year Roundtables members nominate candidates among their respective groups. Remodelers Advantage recognizes these individuals who embody, in spirit and practice, the selfless leadership and unwavering commitment that has made Roundtables the largest, most successful peer group program in the industry.
The winner and finalists of the IMPACT Award share their experience with the Remodelers Advantage Roundtables program below, including their video submissions during the selection process.
Named the 2020 IMPACT Award winner, Evelyn is the Chief Financial Officer for the Lenton Company, Inc. in Palmdale, CA. She and her husband, Robert, have built a thriving, successful and award-winning design/build firm in the beautiful Antelope Valley area of California.
“The Impact Award embodies R/A’s core values of continuous improvement, care, fun, integrity, patience, respect and love. I’ve tried to demonstrate these values with my roundtable and in our company. I learned from people like Mary Gordon, Ellen Moriarity and Paul Wynans the impact words can have on a person or company when delivered with love and respect.”
An icon in the industry, Jeremy is a Principal and co-owner of RisherMartin Fine Homes Austin, Texas. Jeremy is a three-time finalist for the IMPACT Award and he and his partner Chris Risher have built one of the most successful and sought-after custom home building and renovation firms in the Austin area.
“The power of the community has never been more important than it is right now. We’ve all got this challenge that we’re all facing, and I think to have this collective knowledge to pull on and just the emotional support really of folks that are on the same journey that you’re on has been a real blessing for us. It has been a challenging year, but ultimately one that has been made easier because of my association with Remodelers Advantage and my fellow roundtables members.”
Jeremy is the Co-Owner and General Manager of Axis Construction in Wichita Falls, TX. As a finalist for the IMPACT award, Jeremy has become a leader not only with his Roundtables peer group but within the R/A community as well, networking with other remodeling business owners and appearing on podcasts such as PowerTips Unscripted.
“You don’t need to own a huge company, have a distinguished education, or have years of experience to have an impact. All you have to do is share yourself freely for the benefit of others.”
After joining Progressive Design Build in Bonita Springs, FL, in 2012, David wore several hats over the years for the growing firm, ultimately purchasing the company in January 2020, leading the design and construction team and managing the company as President.
“2020 has provided us all with some very unique challenges, and the power of Roundtables has not only allowed us to survive but to thrive and continue to improve not only our trade partners, our team members, but our client experience. And for us, that is extremely important.”
