The goal was to create a home with a centrally located great room and a Swiss mountain feel. Challenges included the use of exposed load-bearing trusses, and heat-load concerns with large walls of glass facing West. A local timber framer helped design and engineer the load-bearing trusses. The roof was built with structural insulated panels. The builder did its best with window tinting and HVAC system configuration to counteract the sun exposure from the windows. In the end, the clients’ desire for a spectacular view won out and the result is plenty of natural light for the homeowners to enjoy.
