This year 79 remodeling and design companies across the country received the 2022 Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence. Since 2000 more than 1,500 companies have received this award, representing over 2,000 award-winning projects in 14 residential and commercial categories, all of which are represented on the Chrysalis website (chrysalisawards.com).
For the past 23 years, the winning projects have been determined based on overall design, creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure or space.

As you walk through the front door, centered in the home is the kitchen. The overall layout now makes sense with distinct work zones and a place for family and friends to gather. The windows were replaced, enlarged and specified in black to create a focal point and add a connection to the beautiful backyard. The knee wall under the window wall was removed, so the new windows sit directly on the countertops.

The homeowners had always dreamed of having a classic Southern home. Their designer and remodeler helped them in planning a great new front façade for their home. It included removing the big clunky two-story porch and replacing it with a larger one-story porch with wider, more inviting walks and steps. Windows were relocated, the brick and mortar wash meticulously matched, and the entire exterior of the house was painted white. The crowning touch was adding an “eyebrow” to complete the “low country” look the homeowners were going for.

This 9×12 enclosed office and open library loft provides unique space and a breathtaking WOW factor when entering the home. The private office has 200 feet of white-oak shelving and 12-foot-long desktop supported by black anodized aluminum framing. Natural lighting flows through the translucent polycarbonate walls and half-light Dutch door. The white-oak library loft flooring resting on black aluminum beams becomes the office ceiling, adding a warm texture to the space.

The Decade of Excellence is the highest award that Chrysalis can present because it represents not only excellence in construction and design, but excellence that has been tested over time. It is only presented once to residential remodeling and design companies who have won a Chrysalis Award in 10 separate years since Chrysalis became a national competition in 2000.
