Tile, Stone Trade Show Attendance Up

Jupiter, FL Strong U.S. sales for ceramic tile and natural
stone, coupled with “intense interest in new product introductions
and industry trends,” contributed to an increase in attendance at
this year’s Coverings trade show, according to show officials.

The four-day trade show and educational conference, conducted in
May in Orlando, attracted 19,766 visitors a 19.3% increase over
1999 and 1,056 exhibitors, according to trade show officials.

Coverings organizers cited a “steadily rising market preference”
for ceramic tile and natural stone as the primary reason for
increased attendance at the show.

At this year’s event, the Tile Council of America (TCA) released
figures showing a 14.9% increase in sales volume for ceramic tile
from 1998 to 1999, to $2.1 billion. The TCA also reported that tile
now occupies 18% of the hard surfaces marketplace, and 9% of the
overall floor covering market.

“Confidence in the future growth of the ceramic tile and natural
stone marketplace shows no sign of waning,” Coverings sponsors
said.

Next year’s show is set for June 12-15, 2001 in the Orange
County Convention Center, Orlando.
