Unions, MTA Sound Off On Lead Paint Removal From Subway System

December 16, 2010 — “The current MTA and New York City Transit policy for lead-paint removal on structural steel is dangerous to the city workers and it’s dangerous to New Yorkers,” said Queens Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.

MTA officials say they require contractors to follow the painting council guidelines, which ensures safety. Union leaders, however, say it is not enough.
