The Idea

The owners of this residence have a taste for the unique and a love for contemporary and traditional items. Above all, the owners love their book collection and wanted a unique way to display and celebrate their many volumes, as well as the interesting objects they have collected throughout the years.

The final design reflects the owners’ love of old and new. Upon close inspection, visitors realize none of the shelving touches anything else, including the other cases, which creates a floating look. Meanwhile, the ladder adds a touch of antique library charm, but with contemporary design. The ladder was finished in oak to match the rest of the residence and features matte aluminum hardware. In addition, the shelves now unite spaces in the home that had been disconnected.

The Materials

The custom shelving system was completed by Franko LaFratta’s in-house cabinetry division, Vangarde Woodworks.
